We British get excited about the weather, the sun pops out for more than an hour and we rush to get the barbecue out, sit outside at the café or restaurant, get the shorts out, flowery shirts and away we go! Especially after the winter we have had with more rain this year than we have had in the last 100!! What a difference the sunshine makes, it lifts the mood and gives a feeling of freedom. Warms you and gives you life.
How much more Jesus, the Light of the world, the Son by which we see the meaning of the whole of life. The one to whom it is said his light gives life and life in all its abundance. The light which shines by saying all you who are weary and heavy laden come to me and I will give you rest. The light which says I have come and died for you even while you were running away from me into darkness I still want to rescue you and redeem you, to breath life into the dying flower of your life. The one who by the power of his word spins the very sun in its position, the one who created the sun!
The greatest new season is the day we walk into the light, the day we admit we are broken by the gloom and rain of life, that we cannot do it on our own and we need him. As you see the new flowers, the leaves come back on the trees, the condensation gather on your glass, let it remind you of the greatest day of resurrection when Jesus rose from the darkness of death to say it is finished now go….
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
