Have you ever asked the question, why me? Or have you ever felt that life has dealt you a hard hand, difficult week, year?
It has seemed to me lately that the fundamental difference in life between people is that we are either God focused or me focused, a big statement, the whole of mankind fitting into these two categories. I would argue that all religions focus primarily on how we can get to God on our own merit, so they are me focused. Hose that don’t believe in God, some turn to a modern phenomena called ‘self’ help how we can look after ‘me’, that we are the centre and everything evolves around what’s best for us.
In Christ we see something radically different, revolutionary and counter cultural even two thousand years removed from the most other centred act of humanity, the cross that Jesus willingly died upon to free us from us and point toward the one it is all about. God comes down, God comes to us, God does the work, God gets the glory. Everything in life will generally try to take you away from this fact, the why me questions are designed mainly to focus on us, a better question might me Why Christ? Why did he do it for me!
Check your thoughts this week how many times are they thinking and abiding in him and how many are spent wandering away from his gaze? If this is not practical enough try thinking for 2 mins every hour about Jesus on that cross and the depth of the character of God to do such a in and see how it changes that hour!
I write this because I struggle with it myself I am sat in a foyer waiting to go into a busy week thinking, why me, what will people think of me, how will I do this or that, have you noticed what all my thoughts are focused on.
Don’t get me wrong here, God wants you in complete joy, complete peace, complete strength, he just wants you to know that’s in him…not you.
